Description
A fluidized sand bed biofilter for removing ammonia in recirculating aquaculture. It uses calcified coral sand as the media, giving a very large surface area for nitrifying bacteria in a small footprint. Laswim positions it as a compact, lower-power replacement for a traditional biofilter trough.
Laswim specifies a media surface area of 20,000 to 24,000 m²/m³ depending on sand size, and an average of 16 g of ammonia (NH4) processed per kg of coral sand per 24 hours.
